Psychiatry The Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine has as its
central focus patients with comorbid medical and psychiatric illness
and
the
interaction between them. This focus entails clinical work,
research and teaching as well as leadership in the provision of
medical-surgical
psychiatry services. Since its establishment in 1954, the
Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine has served as a meeting ground for
collaboration and exchange of knowledge and ideas in the arena of
psychiatric medicine and consultation-liaison psychiatry. Among
the objectives of the Academy are the advancement of scientific knowledge
through study, clinical research and practice, and the furtherance
of communication between medically related disciplines. The
goal of the Academy's international membership is to ensure
the highest
standards of education, research, ethics and quality of patient
care in the practice of psychosomatic medicine and consultation-liaison
psychiatry.
