Guidelines for Psychosomatic Medicine

Interest Group Leaders

Goals of the PMIG’s

  1. to facilitate interest in psychosomatic medicine among medical students and other trainees
  2. to promote education and research collaborations in psychosomatic medicine at that institution
  3. to recruit promising physicians and young researchers into the American Psychosomatic Society
  4. to cultivate the career paths of students interested in psychosomatic medicine

Expectations

Recipients PMIGs of APS funding for each academic year are expected to:

  1. meet at least 6 times between September and June
  2. identify a student leader to share responsibility for PMIG activities with the faculty sponsor
  3. file a brief progress report on activities and spending by January 1, to activate the second half of the funds
  4. participate in person or by report in the PMIG workshop at the APS annual meeting
  5. file a final progress report by July 1, summarizing the activities and spending for the academic year

We hope that any leaders of PMIGs that are not yet funded by APS will contact Lawson Wulsin (Lawson.wulsin@uc.edu) so we can include you in our network.

Suggestions

Check the APS website for resources. We are developing the Psychosomatic Medicine Interest Groups section. Two other existing sections may be helpful: “Education Resources” and the “Journal Club” section of the “Physicians Corner.”
Begin now to identify experts in the field in your region to visit your PMIG later in the year. We will post on the APS website a list of experts in psychosomatic medicine who want to come to PMIG events and speak.
