Position Announcement - Full-time Lecturer in Biological Psychology 2010-2011

The Psychology Department at the University of Southern Maine is seeking applications for a fixed-length one-year (2010-2011) lecturer position in our department. We are interested in applicants with a PhD in Experimental Psychology,* broad training in biology and psychology and experience teaching a range of courses emphasizing biological foundations of behavior. Core teaching responsibilities will include General Psychology, Research Methods (with lab), Physiological Psychology and a course in behavioral pharmacology (Drugs, Mind and Behavior). There may also be opportunities to teach advanced courses in the candidate’s area of specialization. The course load is 4-4. In addition to teaching there will be some advising and departmental service expectations.

Director, Centers for Behavioral and Preventive Medicine

Director, Centers for Behavioral and Preventive Medicine, based at The Miriam Hospital, a founding member of the Lifespan Health System accompanied by an academic appointment in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Alpert Medical School of Brown University

Located in Providence, RI, the Centers' aim is to improve health through behavioral medicine research. The Centers are guided by a commitment to academic research and training at the pre- and post- doctoral level.

The Director will lead a large research department comprised of world-class Ph.D. and M.D. level senior scientists and master's level research associates to develop and maintain an integrated/coordinated research portfolio. The candidate should possess a high level of scientific and management experience with substantial relevant research in their particular area of research. The candidate would also have the ability to manage a diverse portfolio of projects within a complex organizational framework keeping department staff aligned with organizational goals. The Director is expected to have an international reputation and maintain an active externally funded research program. Colleagues include high-caliber researchers, conference presenters, editors and peer reviewers, and peer-reviewed authors. The Director is expected to qualify for a faculty position of Full Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the Brown Medical School.

Position: Assistant Adjunct Professor

The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Behavioral and Developmental Pediatrics, School of Medicine, University of California, Irvine (UCI), is seeking to recruit a full-time faculty member in the Assistant Adjunct Professor series.

The Division of Behavioral and Developmental Pediatrics is establishing a research and educational program in the area of human fetal programming of development and health, with a specific emphasis on the role of prenatal biobehavioral processes in fetal, newborn and child health, and on maternal-placental-fetal neuroendocrine, immune and genetic mediators. For this position we are seeking a suitable candidate with specific interests, expertise and strengths in the area of newborn and child brain imaging (MRI) and function.

This is an excellent opportunity for motivated individuals who are interested in the psychobiological mechanisms underlying fetal programming of brain development. The candidate will work in a multi-disciplinary research team in ongoing and new projects investigating the association between maternal stress and nutrition during pregnancy on newborn and child brain development. The candidate should have a track record of publications in this area and will be expected to formulate his or her own independent research studies and obtain independent funding for support. Training and experience in brain imaging, developmental psychobiology, stress assessment, and research experience in psychobiological mechanisms underlying the development of health and disease are desired.
