The Professional Education Committee is dedicated to improving the understanding
of mind-body interactions in health and disease in medical education.
The Committee presently has several projects that are either ongoing
or soon to be launched. The first is development of a textbook of “psychosomatic
medicine” geared toward enhancing integration of biopsychosocial
issues into undergraduate medical education. The second is solicitation
of teaching resources (e.g., slides, bibliographies) from the APS membership
to be posted on the website. The third involves efforts in outreach and
liaison and includes identification of potential visiting scholars in
the area of biopsychosocial education from the APS membership, re-vitalization
of the visiting scholars program for schools interested in initiating
or further enhancing relevant curricular reform, and offering educational
programming to organizations or foundations that are involved in medical
education. The fourth project pertains to development of educational
programming at the annual meeting. Suggestions regarding any
of these projects are welcome, and the committee is open to new members.
Thanks very
much,
